128 Years of Waddell History

Over a century ago, Waddell began manufacturing products that people loved. Our display cases, which showcased the products of major US companies, were among them. Today, we continue our success by building displays that showcase the history, achievements and artifacts of so many. See how our company went from American Dream to American Success.

Waddell Coffee Mill

1889

Name after its founder, Waddell get its start as the Jno. (short for John) M. Waddell Mfg. Co. Among the earliest products were the Ideal Coffee Mill, Rival Rat Trap, Simplex Cash Register, Cathedral Gong Money Drawer and various cigar display cases.

Waddell Postal Fixture

January, 1901

The Waddell Woodenware Works (4 W’s Co.) is incorporated. The postal fixtures they create become so popular that the Waddell Postal Fixture Company is formed to market and ship them around the nation.

Waddell Display Case

November, 1901

The Waddell factory, which employs about 40 people, burns to the ground, prompting the youngest Waddell son, Dean T. to leave school and help rebuild the family business.

Waddell Showcase

December, 1923

The Waddell Co., Inc. is founded and operated by Jno. M. Waddell’s three sons, Lewis P., Neal P. and Dean T., with showcases becoming the most popular product by 1935. Waddell continues to ship cases to customers like the WM Wrigley Co. and the E.J. Branch Co., who use them to display chewing gum and candy.

1940-1976

Dean T. retains ownership of the company and remains an active part of it until his death in August, 1976 at the age of 91. The company continues to be owned and managed by his two sons, George M. and Dean M. Showcases gain even more steam by serving the display and security needs in schools and institutions across the country.

Waddell Commercial Display Rack

December, 1986 - Today

George Leasure of Lebanon, Ohio acquires Waddell. It is now operated as a division of Ghent Manufacturing, Inc. To this day, Waddell continues its time-honored tradition of crafting quality products that last.
